Bruce Tait Associates has joined forces with the University of St Andrews Student Charities Campaign to award diplomas to the four students recognised by their peers as having made the most outstanding contributions to the Charities Campaigns’ fundraising efforts.

The charities benefiting from the £70,000 raised in the 2008/9 Campaign were UNICEF, Breast Cancer Campaign, Refuge, Alzheimer Scotland, Chest, Heart & Stroke Scotland and Joy to the World.

At the Awards event there was plenty of encouragement for students to consider the Third Sector for their future careers as fundraisers.

Bruce Tait Associates launched The Charity Career Start Programme just over 12 months ago to help people who are keen to become fundraisers, but don’t yet have the experience that charities are looking for. It offers 10-week placements within the fundraising department at a major Scottish charity. Participants also receive induction, training and mentoring on the sector generally and in specific roles such as fundraising, marketing or event organisation.

Director of the company, Eilish McDowell, said that so far 15 people had been offered placements, with around half of those being offered a fundraising role at the end of the placement.
