Abbey launches free guide to PR for charities

Howard Lake | 12 March 2009 | News

Financial services company Abbey has launched a free guide to public relations (PR) designed to help charities together with voluntary and community groups get the most out of promoting their work to potential volunteers and funders.
The guide has been developed by Abbey’s Charitable Trust and PR professionals and offers an introduction to media relations, from interacting with corporate PR teams to hosting journalists at events.
Alan Eagle, Manager of Abbey’s Charitable Trust said: “Effective public relations campaigns within this sector are vital to make campaigns work and drive as much support to the organisations as possible.”
Abbey created the guide, aware that while many larger charities have their own communication teams to deal with PR, some smaller organisations did not, so needed support and ./guidance to help elevate their name and cause in the public eye.
The free guide covers:
* How to work with corporate partners
* What journalists want from media releases and press material
* Planning media activity
* Best time of day to contact people working in the media
* How to evaluate your PR activity and
* General top tips
