Cancer charities consider merger

Action Cancer and the Ulster Cancer Foundation, two of Northern Ireland’s biggest fundraising charities, have announced that they are examining the possibility of merging.
In the last financial year the two charities had a combined income of over £6 million. Nearly all income is derived from public fundraising.
“The Ulster Cancer Foundation and Action Cancer have had a tremendous impact on reducing the burden of cancer locally. Throughout our histories, we have continually reviewed how best to meet the needs of local people, and we now recognise that the time may be right to harness our efforts in order to drive forward further improvements over the coming years,” the charities announced.
“We have undertaken this commitment to establish whether a new combined organisation can ensure that all the funds raised by our combined supporters can go further than ever before and help to provide ever better services for the people who need it most,” the statement added.
The two charities will now consult with their supporters and examine some of the practical issues around a possible merger.
