UK Fundraising’s Howard Lake is to host the UK’s first training course for charities on using Twitter to fundraise.
Twitter and social media have been featured at several fundraising conferences recently but fundraisers have not yet been able to take part in a practical hands-on session showing them how to use this popular tool.
The first half-day course will be held in London on 16 March from 2.15 to 4.30 at The Hub, King’s Cross. Delegate fees are £99 + VAT for charities and £199 + VAT for for-profit organisations such as fundraising agency/consultancy staff.
Other dates and venues around the country are being planned.
“Although Twitter has been around for a couple of years, it is only in the last few months that it’s potential as a fundraising tool has become so clear”, said Howard Lake.
“It offers charities and their supporters an almost instant method of engaging with each other, whether one-to-one or in public.”
“The public is using it for fundraising too, promoting their sponsored events, or even creating a 180-city worldwide event like last week’s Twestival, all via this tool”.
Lake admitted that it was too early to offer a definitive guide to Twitter as a fundraising tool, but there were already good examples for charities to learn from.
To reward organisations already using Twitter and Facebook Lake has offered 10% reductions on the course fees to those using these tools. The reduced fee codes were included in messages to the UK Fundraising group on Facebook and to all those who ‘follow’ (ie. receive messages from) Howard Lake on Twitter.
