NCVO Funding Commission meets for first time

Howard Lake | 14 February 2009 | News

NCVO’s new Funding Commission has met for the first time. Its 11 Funding Commissioners are looking at the future funding of the voluntary and community sector.
The Commission is encouraging written submissions from interested parties, and will hold a series of regional events to solicit input from the sector.
Rachel Lomax, former Deputy Governor of the Bank of England from 2003-08, is chairing the Commission. She said: “The new Funding Commission is very well timed. There is a real risk that the recession will put a severe squeeze on the voluntary sector and wider civil society. Demands are bound to increase just as funding becomes more difficult.
“The Commission will consult widely on how the voluntary and community sector can rise to this challenge, and move towards a more securely funded longer-term future.”
Other Commissioners include Paul Amadi, Chair of the Institute of Fundraising and Group Director of Fundraising at RNIB; Michael Brophy, former CEO of the Charities Aid Foundation; and Stephen Dunmore, former Chief Executive of the Big Lottery Fund and adviser to the Office of the Third Sector.
The Commission will report back in a year.
