Abbey, part of the Santander banking group, has chosen Help the Hospices as its Charity of the Year for 2009.
The new partnership will include both national and regional initiatives. Abbey has pledged to raise £50,000 for the charity, which will help run the national Hospice information service enquiry line.
In addition, Abbey’s head offices and regional offices have been twinned with their nearest local hospice to allow employees to participate in local volunteering and fundraising activities.
The partnership will be launched with a ‘Go Yellow’ event, encouraging staff to get involved in fundraising activities themed yellow, the colour adopted by the hospice movement.
Other fundraising throughout the year will include ideas linked in with Help the Hospices 25th Anniversary celebrations, and Easter and summer themed activities alongside appeals in Abbey branches.
Sheralee Morris, Community Relations Manager at Abbey, said: “Our staff are particularly motivated by the fact that their fundraising initiatives will be able to benefit the local hospice, thereby giving support to the local communities in which they live and work”.
