The legacy conference shows we are alive and kicking…

The legacy conference this week was a showcase for vibrant thinking, good practice and innovation. Times may be tough – but there’s plenty of life in legacy fundraising…
A sell out attendance of 250 at the annual event saw a mix of presentations around the market place, future trends, practical solutions and great innovation. What was clear was that these presentations and the audience were sending a few well chosen but clear messages. Firstly, the donor is beginning to be really listened to. Practice is showing that insights from donors prevail when actions are delivered as opposed to enforcing many of our outdated and fixed views. Research and learning are paving the way for innovation. Secondly, despite the economic doom and gloom there is a real buzz around future opportunties with a new renewed determination. Thirdly – attendees wanted to collar the senior leadership across the sector, to get them owning, understanding and championing legacy fundraising.
We have moved on – and have a sense of where we want to go next. Its not about budgets or cuts or values (important as they are) but it is about a renewed sense of purpose, learning, innovation, creativity and shared experiences. The conference showed how good we really can be -and that with a positive, confident, aspirational approach we can develop and grow, raise more money, delight more donors and help our causes. Now for the year ahead…
