Guardian Christmas Appeal again focuses on Katine village

Howard Lake | 28 November 2008 | News

Tomorrow The Guardian and Observer newspapers will launch their annual Christmas appeal to readers. This year, for the second year running, the appeal will benefit Katine, the African village which The Guardian is tracking a three-year development project with Amref and Farm-Africa, in partnership with Barclays.
The appeal gets underway with the first of two online auctions. Items on offer via eBay include dinner for eight with Sir Bob Geldof at Cecconi’s restaurant, a signed, limited edition photograph taken in Ethiopia in 1985 by Bono, and a signed Lewis Hamilton Formula 1 replica crash helmet.
Launched just over a year ago, the Katine project had raised £615,649 by 31 October.
