Dogs Trust's Twittering pays off

Dogs Trust reckon they have just scored a first by their use of micro-blogging tool Twitter. They have successfully rehomed a dog to someone who first heard about the animal through the charity’s Twitter feed.

Alexandra Roumbas, Web Editor Dogs Trust, told UK Fundraising that she thinks that "this is the first time an animal charity has used this particular social networking tool to do this".

She added: "It really underscored the importance of being able to communicate one-to-one online as well as through our website and e-mailings".

Dogs Trust use Twitter to rehome a dog

Dogs Trust have been using Twitter for some time now and have attracted over 400 followers. Their willingness to try out this and other social media tools (remember, Dogs Trust is home to Doggysnaps, the social networking site for dog owners) has resulted in them getting cited in many charity social media presentations from the likes of Steve Bridger, Rachel Beer and myself.

Alexandra therefore doesn’t need to be convinced of the power of social media, but said "it is nice to get these tangible results that spur us on to find new ways of communicating with supporters, wherever they are".
