Rays of Sunshine to benefit from Pound a Poem
Children’s charity Rays of Sunshine has been chosen as this year’s partner charity for Pound a Poem 2008, which gets underway on 15 September 2008.
The scheme, now in its second year, promotes literacy, healthy eating and celebrates children’s good citizenship.
This year primary school children will have the opportunity to submit a poem for £1. The final 18 poems will be judged by a number of celebrities, including TV personality Esther Rantzen, children’s authors Jacqueline Wilson, Annabel Karmel and Dan Freedman, presenter Dom Wood of the Dick and Dom team, actress Tracy Ann Oberman and comedian James Campbell.
The 96 winning entries will appear in the Pound a Poem book alongside poetry from a large number of celebrities, including Terry Pratchett, Piers Morgan, Julie Christie, Darcy Bussell and Dermot O’Leary.
The overall winner will win a week’s holiday for four to Barbados, with their school receiving £1000 to spend on equipment.
The project has been sponsored by Landsbanki.
