Aspinall Foundation launches first prepaid card to donate to charity

Howard Lake | 20 March 2008 | News

The Aspinall Foundation has launched what it says is “the first prepaid card programme in the UK to reward cardholder loyalty by delivering additional income to a charity”.
Launched in partnership with MasterCard and prepaid card provider M-Cube, the Aspinall Foundation Maestro® prepaid card will enable both supporters of the charity and visitors to the Aspinall Foundation’s parks in Kent to support it through the donation of an amount equivalent to 50% of profits generated every time they use the card. Fifty per cent of profits generated by the initial purchase of the card will also be donated.
Like other Maestro cards it can be used at more than 6.7 million outlets throughout the UK and Europe.
The programme aims to generate £500,000 in additional income per year for the charity.
Cardholders will qualify for additional card benefits including:
• 10 per cent off all souvenirs, food and drink purchased at the Aspinall Foundation’s parks
• free entry to a monthly prize draw offering the opportunity to win a VIP private tour of the Port Lympne Wild Animal Park
• other offers and savings with retail partners including SeaFrance, Spicers Hampers, Superbreak and Holiday Extras.
Commenting on the launch, John Kerr, Finance Director at M-Cube, said: “This card is not just another piece of plastic. It offers genuine additional benefits including discounts and reward opportunities which will cement the bonds between cardholders and the Aspinall Foundation.”
The Aspinall Foundation card costs £9.99 and is available from the Aspinall Foundation’s two wildlife parks at Howletts and Port Lympne, Kent and online.
