Roy Castle charity to fundraise with online bingo

Howard Lake | 29 February 2008 | News

The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation has partnered with charity bingo website BigHeartBingo.co.uk to raise funds.
According to iGamingBusiness in December 2007, there were 160,000 registered online bingo players in the UK, with considerable growth following the recent change in the Gambling Act that permits properly licensed Internet bingo to be legally promoted and advertised in the UK. According to other research, Internet bingo is attracting younger, trendier players and 90% of online players are now under the age of 50.
Around £1 billion is spent each year in licensed bingo halls and a similar amount in social clubs across the country.
BigHeartBingo gives half of its net revenue to charity partners.
The site was set up by Jeremy Collis, former Managing Director of Littlewoods Lotteries. He explained: “Bingo is really a type of lottery but with more fun so lends itself perfectly to charity fundraising.
“The change in the gambling law has created an explosion in marketing activity for Internet bingo and the game is growing rapidly as a consequence. There is no reason why bingo could not be of comparable magnitude to the National Lottery in a few years’ time and we intend that a part of it will generate substantial funds for UK charities”.
