When is a consultant a ‘professional fundraiser’?

No jokes today – the Institute of Fundraising is just launching its Code of Practice for Consultants, which expertly sets out just when a consultant becomes a ‘professional fundraiser’ under the new Charities Act. See www.institute-of-fundraising.org.uk.
The code also tackles difficult questions such as; just what a consultant / professional fundraiser must do during a personal ‘ask’.
To my mind, as a consultant, this is required reading; and I hope it will also be read by my clients and prospective clients. It’s not often you can say that about a code of practice!
How many consultants does it take to change a lightbulb? Hmm must be in the code somewhere…
