Foundation launches leadership and training fund

Howard Lake | 11 February 2008 | News

The Community Foundation for Ireland has announced the establishment of The Ray Murphy Fund which will assist and encourage managers within the community and voluntary sectors to access leadership education and training. The Community Foundation will contribute €200,000 to the fund over the next 10 years.
The fund was named after the late Ray Murphy of The Mott Foundation, and formerly of Atlantic Philanthropies, to acknowledge the support he gave to both the philanthropic sector and to the Community Foundation itself during his lifetime.
The fund will make grants available to build leadership within the community sector for the next 10 years. It will be particularly focused on senior management and key volunteers in the community, who wish to advance their management skills and training. The Community Foundation will also arrange seminars around the country for grant winners to share their learning and skills with other community groups. Five grants will be awarded annually and will be for a maximum of €4,000 each. The Community foundation will contribute €20,000 a year to the fund.
“Ray Murphy was always interested in building strong leadership in the community and voluntary sector. He realised how challenging it was for organisations to raise money for their day to day operations let alone trying to find funding for training or having time for reflection. Therefore, I’m delighted that the board of the Community Foundation are recognising Ray by establishing this fund,” said Tina Roche, CEO, The Community Foundation.
The Community Foundation is currently accepting applications for grants under this scheme and further grant information and application guidelines are available from The Community Foundation for Ireland’s office at (01) 874 7354 or on their website.
