Manchester United’s four preferred charity partners are each to receive £13,750 from the proceeds of this year’s FA Community Shield game. The recipients are The Legacy – Rainbow House, Francis House Children’s Hospice, Christie’s and The New Children’s Hospital Appeal.

Every year The Football Association distributes almost £1 million from the proceeds of The FA Community Shield to the teams competing in the previous season’s FA Cup. These are used by the clubs to provide needed assistance for charities and community schemes in their local areas.

To celebrate the donations, children involved with the four local charities were invited to Old Trafford to be photographed with the FA Community Shield by the side of the pitch. The children were given a behind-the-scenes tour of the stadium before posing with the Shield at the pitch side, an honour usually reserved for the trophy winners.

The partnership with the charities is managed on behalf of the Club by Manchester United Foundation (Trading) Limited. The Foundation was set up in 2006 to celebrate 50 years of the Club playing in Europe.
