Virgin Mobile staff are planning to raise more than £50,000 for two charities by covering 500 miles by bike in one week in the ‘Big Ride 2006’.

The Big Ride is a week’s long bicycle ride, starting in Middlesbrough on 22 May, travelling via the Virgin Mobile Head Office in Trowbridge, and finishing in London’s Leicester Square, a total distance of more than 500 miles.

Three eight-member teams will raise funds for ABC Trust, which provides support and care to help transform the lives of thousands of impoverished street children in Brazil, and Cancer Research UK.

Other staff will join and take part for a day’s cycling during the week.

Rob Shardlow, General Manager of New Retail at Virgin Mobile, said: “The Big Ride is a unique idea for Virgin Mobile to raise money for charity and to integrate the three different offices that are located in Trowbridge, Middlesbrough and London”.

Corporate sponsors Garlands Call Centres, Motorola and Morgan Stanley have each donated £10,000.
