VSO – sharing skills, changing lives

Alice Chilufya, a fundraiser for Breakthrough Breast Cancer, is leaving the UK next month to spend two years developing fundraising for a grassroots youth organisation in Lusaka, Zambia. Miss Chilufya is one of many volunteers who have responded to international development charity VSO’s recent calls for fundraising professionals to take up placements overseas.
“Although I was born in Zambia I’ve spent all my adult life in the UK,” said Miss Chilufya. “I’ve always wanted to go back and work there professionally. I hope to learn a great deal from working overseas with very limited resources, experience which should help me to develop my career when I return to the UK.”
VSO is still keen to recruit fundraisers for placements such as a children’s disability charity in Ethiopia, the Kenyan Union for the Blind, or a women’s rights organisation in South Africa. The charity also has a number of short-term fundraising assignments for senior fundraisers.
