Tesco donates £20,000 to Trinity Hospice

Clapham-based Trinity Hospice has received a grant of £20,000 from the Tesco Charity Trust. In keeping with Tesco’s position as a food retailer, the donation will be used to fund a ‘Patient’s Pantry’ in Trinity’s new 28-bed In-Patient Centre which is currently under construction.
The In-Patient Centre is part of a £10 million redevelopment programme due for completion in summer 2008.
Anne Hooper, Chief Executive of Trinity Hospice, said that she would be inviting the manager of the local branch of Tesco’s to open the Patients’ Pantry when it was ready in 2008. “Thanks to Tesco,” she added, “our patients and their families will have the opportunity and the flexibility to enjoy the comforts naturally associated with being at home – those special family treats or a nice cup of tea just when it’s needed.”

Set up in 1987, the Tesco Charity Trust supports both national and local community charity appeals. In 2006 it made cash grants of £1,496,373. It also adds 20% to all approved fundraising by Tesco staff in respect of charities or the community.
