CAF offers new programme of tax-efficient giving workshops

Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) has announced a series of training events designed to help charities increase the amount they raise in tax-efficient donations.

CAF’s Autumn/Winter Workshop series has been designed to teach small and medium-sized charities the skills needed to secure regular, tax-efficient donations, to fundraise effectively and to promote themselves to donors and companies. The workshops take place at venues across London, Birmingham and Edinburgh from October to February.

The one-day workshops cost £100 and half-day events £60. They cover:

In announcing the workshops CAF pointed out that the Chancellor is due to cut the basic rate of tax to 20% next year, which will result in an estimated drop of £71 million in Gift Aid income. In addition to this, CAF maintains that “each year, £700 million goes unclaimed on donations” because charities fail to utilise Gift Aid effectively enough.

CAF argues that charities that equip themselves with the necessary skills and knowledge to make the most of tax-efficient giving could claim their their share of the £700 million. This would “more than compensate for the loss in income” following the cut in tax in April 2008.

CAF also offers bespoke, in-house training for up to 20 delegates at £500 a day or £300 for half a day.
