New Conference to Take the Fear out of Securing Major Gifts

Howard Lake | 22 August 2007 | Newswire

A new Institute of Fundraising one-day conference on best practice in major gifts fundraising, including planning and implementing a Major Gifts fundraising programme and motivating donors, will empower Scottish fundraisers in ‘making the ask’. The Major Gift Fundraising Scotland conference will take place on Tuesday 4th September 2007 at the Hilton, Glasgow.
The opening plenary speaker for the conference is major philanthropist Dame Stephanie Shirley, founder of the Shirley Foundation. The event is ideal for those fundraisers who are beginning to think about implementing a major gift fundraising programme.
The conference covers a wide range of topics including:
· Prospect research – how to find donors
· Building a case for support and making the ask
· Working with volunteer committees on major donor acquisition
· Donor cultivation
Presentations on the day will be from organisations including Maggies, National Galleries Scotland, The University of Edinburgh, Sense Scotland, Methodist Homes for the Aged and National Trust for Scotland.
Kirsty Thomson, Head of Events at the Institute of Fundraising, says:
Major Gift fundraising is an effective means by which charities can increase their revenue. This event will provide fundraisers with the confidence to engage with major donors by providing information and advice on the fundraising technique. Our interactive training session on ‘making the ask’ will make the major gifts fundraising process less daunting for those who work to increase their charity’s income in this way.”
The Institute of Fundraising’s one-day conferences provide an opportunity for delegates to explore a particular fundraising technique or issue in detail.
