Yorkshire Building Society seeks nominations for small grants

Howard Lake | 18 June 2007 | News

The Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation is inviting customers and members of the public to nominate a charity to receive a £50 grant. Nominations are accepted during the society’s annual ‘Make a Difference Week’ from 15-23 June.

To make a recommendation members of the public are invited to call into any of the Yorkshire’s 131 branches and 75 agencies. These can be found on the company’s website.

The Charitable Foundation was founded in 1999 and has since donated more than £2.2 million to over 4,000 charities. It receives most of its funds through the Society’s ‘Small Change Big Difference’ scheme where members donate pennies from the interest they receive on their accounts.

Its priorities are to support charities and good causes involving the elderly, those in need or vulnerable (particularly children and those with special needs) and those suffering hardship.

The emphasis is on helping in local communities across the UK, working through Society branches, head office departments and customers, to support local charities and good causes in areas that they consider to be important.

Louise Neill of the Foundation said: Make a Difference Week offers the Society the chance to support smaller, local charities that are often overlooked by large organisations but are important to the communities where our staff and members live and work.

Last year, over 500 local good causes were nominated for support during Make a Difference Week which resulted in over £40,000 being donated.”
