Man's auction to change his name benefits charity
Scott MacDonald has auctioned online the opportunity to change and choose his name, and donated 10% of the winning bid to charity.
Mr MacDonald, or Mr Freebeestore as he is now legally called, promoted the auction on his blog, choosemyname.blogspot.com. The winning bid came from Free-A-Store-Us-Rex. He will keep the name until at least 2 February 2008.
He chose to donate 10% of the bid price to Im Jai House run by children’s charity the ISAAC Foundation in Thailand. “The Im Jai House was recommended by a friend who volunteered there,” he told .net magazine. “I talked to them, they loved the idea, and came across as the right people.”
Mr Freebeestore is the borther of Kyle MacDonald, who came up with another quirky but popular online initiative to trade up from one red paperclip to a house.
