Hitwise UK calculated the winners based on the market share of visits a website has received throughout 2006.

Perhaps the most surprising entry was that of togscalendar.org, which must surely rank as one of the less professionally designed charity sites. But, given it promoted Terry Wogan’s TOGS Calendar in aid of BBC Children in Need, its success is more understandable.

Perhaps not surprisingly no charity brand featured in the top 10 brands searched for online during 2006. The winners were:

1 ebay
2 bebo
3 argos
4 amazon
5 easyjet
6 bbc
7 autotrader
8 tesco
9 ebay uk
10 cbbc

Still, charities that secured charity of the year partnerships with the above organisations should have benefited from their success, provided this partnership was promoted sufficiently on the companies’ websites.
