£50,000 for youth volunteering in Bristol and Bath

Howard Lake | 20 March 2007 | News

Radio station GWR FM and regional newspaper the Evening Post are giving away £50,000 to local community organisations in Bristol and Bath to fund new volunteering opportunities for young people.

The two media companies have teamed up with v, the youth volunteering charity, to fund projects in their area. GCap Media, GWR FM’s parent company has pledged £3-4 million in kind to help v achieve its vision of inspiring 1 million more volunteers aged 16-25 years in England across the next three years.

The £50,000 grants fund will be given away both on air and in the paper during the first week of May. Every day up to £10,000 will be handed out in grants to successful projects that can be completed by the end of 2007.

The final day will be a special reader and listener’s choice award of £10,000, selected by voting in the Evening Post. A special v panel lead by GWR FM’s registered charity Bristol Kidz will be set up to consider proposals for new volunteering opportunities created by the projects.

Projects can cover a variety of ideas that will benefit the community as a whole and can cover a diverse range of activities such as music, sports, the arts, and the environment.

The deadline for receipt of proposals is 16 April 2007.
