Faster Greener Printing for Charities

Howard Lake | 13 February 2007 | Newswire

Blackmore Ltd, a specialist charity printer and a UK top 200 printing solutions company, is now able to dramatically minimise the impact on the environment and reduce printing time for its clients by up to one day as a result of installing a new state-of-the-art Ryobi print machine.  Blackmore Ltd, who provides printing solutions for major charities including MIND (National Association for Mental Health), Help the Aged, The Stroke Association, Cancer Research and RNLI, completed this major investment in the full colour plus coat press following a stringent environmental audit.

The faster print turnaround and more environmentally-friendly print process are due to the following:

  1. The new Ryobi press consumes almost 50% less power than the equivalent specification from their previous machine manufacturer.  This then reduces the climate control levy and provides a startling reduction in carbon emissions.
  2. The coating unit helps print items to dry within one hour, whereas they were previously left overnight to dry.  The new press will only require 750 litres of water per annum to clean the coating unit compared to 6000 litres of water on other similar machines from another manufacturer.
  3. VOC (volatile organic compound) emissions are also amazingly a full ton less per year than the comparative press.

Blackmore is a family-owned, independent print company with a turnover of £7 million and employer of over 70 people at its north Dorset plant.    Trading since around 1910, Blackmore offers almost a century’s worth of experience in advising companies and agencies on how best to promote their services.  They now hold the ISO 14001 Environmental Standard award, which is only held by a small percentage of printers in the UK, and are constantly striving to minimise the effects on the environment.  Specialising in flyers, leaflets, booklets, brochures and local community newspapers, Blackmore is in the top 200 print company listings for the UK as part of the T.H. Brickell Group.

Blackmore Ltd’s sales director, Aubrey Aviss stated ‘the purchase represents a major step forward for the business in providing top class marketing print with a minimal environmental impact.  I’m thrilled that we can offer superb quality to buyers who take their responsibilities seriously.’
