Ethical advertising pixel ads site aims for $1 million for charity

TickettoaMillion.com is the latest effort to emulate the success of Alex Tew’s milliondollarhomepage.com, but takes a different approach by attempting both to raise $1 million for charity and to give visitors to the site the opportunity to win $1 million. The website is trying to generate this money by selling advertising spaces to “family friendly” and ethical companies.

The site has been set up by London-based 25-year-old graduate Michael Blakeley. He has selected five beneficiary charities: FARM-Africa, Hope for Children, Peace Direct, Sense, and The Institute of Cancer Research, each of whom will receive $100,000 if the website is successful. The other five charities which stand to benefit will be decided by the votes of visitors to the site.

Hannah Crabtree, Press and PR Manager at The Institute of Cancer Research, said: “It’s incredibly refreshing to find a website that offers the chance for people to win a million as well as raising money for good causes.”

The site’s “Family Friendly Guidelines” aim to make the website accessible to the whole family, as well as attracting mainstream companies, by banning sites which promote certain products or activities, such as gambling, alcohol and pornography.

One day after launch the site reports that it had sold 2,000 pixels leaving 998,000 to go. The site was also displaying a number of donated adverts for the beneficiary charities.

Blakeley told UK Fundraising: “as I am trying to help other charities, not just my affiliates, then the first 20 charities to submit a completed application form will receive a free 20 box advert to put
their logo in.

“As people can vote for who receives a donation then having the charities’ logo on there can help them receive votes and
also promote both their charity and website.”
