Outdoor clothing and equipment specialists Cotswold Outdoor Ltd has teamed up with British rugby’s official charity to sponsor the Wooden Spoon Four Peaks Challenge 2007.

The event will involve more than 100 competitors climbing four of the highest mountains in Britain and Ireland in under 48 hours. The challenge to scale Ben Nevis in Scotland, Helvellyn in England, Snowdon in Wales and Carantouhill in Ireland has over the past 17 years raised more than £4 million for disabled and disadvantaged children.

Chris Burns, senior group sales executive for Cotswold Outdoor, based in Malmesbury, Wiltshire, said: “Our headquarters is situated at the heart of rugby country, equidistant between The Rec at Bath and Kingsholm in Gloucester…

“It was therefore an opportunity too good to miss when we were given the chance to support the premier rugby charity and such a fantastic event as the Wooden Spoon Four Peaks Challenge… We will be offering support and advice as well as very competitive deals to competitors and supporters.”

Geoff Morris, chief executive of Wooden Spoon, said: “It’s wonderful to have the support of a leading outdoor equipment and clothing company… Cotswold Outdoor has pledged to provide discounts to all those taking part, is providing prizes to teams that raise the most funds and may be staging special shopping evenings at its stores specifically for our competitors.”

The event will take place between 28 and 30 June 2007 and involve 60 teams, each of which is committed to raising at least £4,400.
