The weekly BBC Radio 4 appeals on behalf of a charity often bring in thousands, even tens of thousands of pounds. Over the year they bring in a total of half a million pounds. But few can have generated as much as the appeal on behalf of Ovarian Cancer Action in February 2006.
Presented by Nigel Havers, the appeal generated around £16,000 from Radio 4 listeners. In addition, it was heard by two executors handling an estate and they contacted the charity to say that, once probate had been granted, they would donate over £225,000!
Frances Reid, Head of communications at Ovarian Cancer Action, said: “That is the largest single donation we have received to date, so thank you Radio 4!”
