PUPILS GO BAG-PACKING TO SUPPORT YOUNGSTERS ABROAD
20/12/06
Pupils from Polam Hall School in Darlington will be giving shoppers a helping hand this weekend in an effort to raise funds for their forthcoming charity work in Tanzania.
Members of the school’s Interact Club will be packing bags in the Darlington branch of Sainsbury’s at Victoria Road, from 10am until 8pm on Saturday, December 23.
Interact, short for International Action, offers young people the chance to try new activities and make a difference to their local community as well as helping young people in less privileged parts of the world.
The group, which is supported by Darlington Rotary Club is currently supporting a scheme to help orphans in Tanzania and are planning to visit the children in 2008. Their day of bag-packing will mark the start of this particular fundraising campaign.
Marie Green, Headmistress at Polam Hall School, said: The Interact Club was formed by a group of Polam Hall pupils who felt like they wanted to contribute positively to their local, national and international communities. The Club, which currently has about 20 members, has already raised funds in support of a number of local charities and the students are now planning to do more globally in 2008.
Christmas is a very busy time of year in supermarkets and bag-packing on the eve of Christmas Eve seemed like the ideal time to kick-start our Tanzania fundraising campaign and come to the aid of Darlington’s seasonal shoppers.”
