Mobile payment service LUUP„¢ is offering to add 20% to each new user’s first-time donation to all UK charities which register to accept donations via LUUP by 15 December 2006.

The offer, announced at last week’s UK Fundraising Perfect Pitch – IT event in London, is designed to encourage charities to try out LUUP’s mobile donations service.

LUUP enables mobile phone users to make payments to businesses, charities and to other individuals e.g. to share a restaurant bill. It handles donations by SMS, WAP and online.

Accounts are open to anyone over 14, and can be funded by linking credit cards or debit cards, or by topping up the stored value account through bank transfer or person-to-person payments.

One particular attraction to charities is the fact that donations via LUUP can range from 1p to £800. Premium SMS donations on the other hand are capped at £6. In addition, donations/payments are received instantly by the charity in its LUUP account, and funds can be transferred immediately to its bank account.

To handle donations LUUP charges 2.5% plus 18p per transaction. There are no registration fees, recurring fees or set-up fees. LUUP says it can set up merchant accounts for a charity within 24 hours, and even managed recently to set up an account for the FAREPAK Response Fund within a few hours.

LUUP say that its system can be set up to allow charities to request Gift Aid declarations, to sell event tickets, request monthly or regular gifts, and a range of other fundraising activities.
