EDF Energy Trust passes £2 million mark in grants made

Howard Lake | 28 November 2006 | News

The EDF Energy Trust, a charity that gives grants to people struggling to pay their energy bills, has now awarded more than £2 million in 4,275 awards to clear debts.

The Trust, which was established at the end of 2003 with the support of EDF Energy, “aims to make a long-term difference to people’s lives”, and is available to customers of EDF Energy including the brands formerly known as SWEB Energy, Seeboard Energy and London Energy. People can apply to the Trust for help to clear debts from gas and electricity bills, and in exceptional cases, the Trust can also provide funds for other essential household items and bills.

The trust aims to make 3,000 awards per annum.

The Trust is managed on a day to day basis by Charis Grants, a social enterprise organisation with extensive experience of grants management and administration. Charis Grants manages other utility industry trusts including The Anglian Water Trust Fund, The British Gas Energy Trust (including the Scottish Gas Energy Trust), and The Eos Foundation.

Charis Grants say that all the Trust Funds it manages operate independently of their donor companies.
