Deadline nears for enterprise bursaries from Only Connect

Howard Lake | 15 November 2006 | News

Applications for this quarter’s Only Connect bursary scheme from NCVO’s Sustainable Funding Project must be received by 8 December 2006. The bursaries are designed to enable voluntary and community organisations to explore the opportunities for trading goods and services, thereby generating an independent, sustainable source of income.

The bursary scheme, sponsored by charity banking specialists Triodos Bank, enables voluntary and community organisations to visit another organisation with a proven track record in making money from trading to learn how they do it.

NCVO aims to award up to four bursaries in each round (December, March, June and September).

Before applying, voluntary and community organisations must source an organisation who are trading that they would like to visit, and successful applicants will be given up to £100 travel and subsistence expenses. Organisations that agree to host the visits receive a ‘consultation fee’ of £150 for their advice and time.

Sue Cooper, Senior Manager, Social Banking Team at Triodos Bank, said: “Only Connect is a simple, but exciting idea. Hundred of charities and voluntary organisations across the country know how to run financially sound businesses that directly contribute to their success. Helping to share their expertise could have far-reaching benefits.”
