Charity Commission quick to register Farepak Response Fund

The Charity Commission has moved quickly to register the Farepak Response Fund as a charity. The Fund has been set up to help the thousands of families who together lost an estimated £50 million when the company Farepak went out of business.
The affected families made monthly payments to the company to buy vouchers and hampers for Christmas. When the company collapsed these families lost all the money they had paid.
The Farepak Response Fund, now a registered charity, will make grants to the families affected to help them buy the food and presents they had saved for all year. The charity will be run by the Family Fund, a charity which gives grants to families with severely disabled or seriously ill children throughout the UK.

Shirley Young, Chair of Trustees for the Family Fund said: “Family Fund has more than thirty years experience of working with families facing hardship. We felt not only did we have the relevant experience, but also a duty to make an offer to government to administer the Farepak Response Fund and to help ensure those affected are able to celebrate Christmas.”
The Farepak Response Fund is seeking donations from private companies, charitable trusts and members of the public to enable vouchers to be provided to affected families in time for Christmas. Donations must be received by the Fund no later than 24 November 2006.
