CORNMILL HELPS GIVE TO LIFE THIS CHRISTMAS
09/11/06
A seasonal fundraising appeal from St Teresa’s Hospice is giving shoppers the chance to create their own Christmas wishes for family and friends, thanks to the kindness and generosity of hospice volunteers and the Cornmill Shopping Centre.
The popular annual ‘Giving to Life Tree’ was officially launched earlier this week at Darlington’s Cornmill Shopping Centre, and it is anticipated that this year will be another successful year for the heart-warming Christmas campaign.
Throughout the Christmas period shoppers will be able to hang personal messages on the 15-foot tree, leaving special wishes in memory of a loved one or for their friends and family, in exchange for a small donation.
Members of the Darlington Fire Station were present to see the tree erected and were among the first to add their personalised baubles and contribute to the festive fundraiser.
All proceeds from the appeal will go directly towards helping to provide dedicated palliative and respite care services to people coping with a life limiting illness in South Durham and North Yorkshire.
St Teresa’s Hospice Director, Jane Bradshaw, said: ”The ‘Giving to Life Tree’ offers people the unique opportunity to remember a loved one or write a Christmas message to friends and family. Thanks to the generosity of shoppers in Darlington, it also raises much-needed funds on the Hospice’s behalf. Last year we raised almost £8,000 in total and I am hoping we can match this again in 2006.”
Gavin Pallister, Station Manager for Darlington Fire Station, said: The Darlington Fire Service has a longstanding relationship with St Teresa’s Hospice and we try to help in its fundraising campaigns whenever we can. I know that all the lads are happy to support the Hospice and we are wishing them the best of luck with this year’s ‘Giving to Life Tree’.
