ST TERESA’S HOSPICE ‘CELEBRATES LIFE’ WITH TYNE TEES PRESENTER
18/09/06
Tyne Tees TV presenter Andy Kluz has made a special visit to St Teresa’s Hospice in Darlington, to present the charity with a cheque for £5,000.
The money was raised as part of the recent Celebration of Life After Cancer charity fashion show, which is aimed at promoting awareness of Cancer and celebrating life after the illness.
Andy Kluz, who has been a presenter in the North-East for more than 15 years, was recently appointed Patron of the Celebration of Life after Cancer Charity, a role previously occupied by his Tyne Tees colleague, weatherman Bob Johnson.
Originally established in 1999, A Celebration of Life after Cancer charity organises special fashion shows where all the models, men, women and children have or have had some form of cancer. The shows help to raise money which is used to help people who are disadvantaged by having cancer and other cancer organisations in the North East area.
This year’s show, which was held at Tall Trees in Yarm, was attended by more than 2,200 people and raised over £30,000
St Teresa’s Hospice in Darlington received a donation of £5,000 from the proceeds, which will be used directly to fund the charity’s palliative and respite care services, including Hospice at Home and specialist counselling.
St Teresa’s Hospice Director, Jane Bradshaw, said: “The Celebration of Life After Cancer is an important organisation for the North-East, as it helps local charities to raise much-needed funds, which ultimately help us to offer the best care possible.
“The message behind the charity, that we should celebrate life and be thankful for what we have, reflects an important attitude and one which St Teresa’s Hospice supports wholeheartedly.”
Mary Lee, founder of Celebration of Life After Cancer, said: “We have many cancer organisations represented on our committee, including St Teresa’s, who are all working extremely hard together to help those who are currently living with the illness.
“I know that St Teresa’s Hospice means a great deal to the people of South Durham and North Yorkshire and I am glad that A Celebration of Life After Cancer is able to support them in this way.”
