Citing the impact of the tsunami and Third World appeals, Barnardos Ireland has reported a challenging fundraising year in 2005, with income from activities down from ‚€2.6 million to ‚€2.4 million. Overall charity income, however, grew from just over ‚€16 million to ‚€17.5 million.

Statutory income now represents 60% of Barnardos income with donations at 12%, shops 5% and trusts, foundations and legacies at 22%. The latter category grew significantly with a grant from Atlantic Philanthropies of ‚€1.8 million and other trust donations of ‚€1.7 million boosting the figure.

Barnardos reported that it has recruited 4500 regular supporters giving through direct debit.
