THE RACE IS ON TO ENTER THE
FLORA LONDON MARATHON
11/09/06
The race is on for runners to secure a place in the 2007 Flora London Marathon to help raise money for St Teresa’s Hospice.
The Marathon may still be eight months away (April 22), but the countdown for entries has already begun and the Darlington-based Hospice is now appealing for individuals to apply on the charity’s behalf.
Applications are open to anyone over the age of 16, with places allocated through an independent ballot system. The closing date for entries is set for October 20 2006 with the successful runners revealed in December.
Entrants who pledge to raise sponsorship for St Teresa’s will be offered a number of additional features to help them make the most of their marathon experience. These include training, injury and nutrition advice, sunflower running vests to show support for local hospice care, race day cheering spots for supporters and a relaxing post-race reception, including food, massages and race replays.
All proceeds raised from the entrants’ sponsorship will be used to help fund St Teresa’s Hospice’s palliative and respite care services, which are provided free of charge to anyone living within the South Durham and North Yorkshire areas.
David Jones, Community Fundraising Manager for St Teresa’s Hospice, said: The Hospice receives very little government funding and so we rely almost entirely on voluntary donations and fundraising activites like the Flora London Marathon.
I would advise anyone wishing to apply for a place to submit their application form as soon as possible. Last year only one in five applicants was offered a place and I expect the demand to be even higher this year.”
To request an application form for the 2007 Flora London Marathon public ballot, please call David Jones, Community Fundraising Manager for St Teresa’s Hospice, on (01325) 254321.
