The Vodafone UK Foundation has made donations to The Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Trust, NSPCC, Turning Point and The Wiltshire Music Centre totalling £116,200 as part of their quarterly grants announcement.
These grants illustrate our focus on increasing access to information and opportunities for young people at risk of social exclusion through the use of technology” says Sarah Shillito, Head of The Vodafone UK Foundation. We’re also keen to back projects in areas where Vodafone has a significant physical presence, and these grants help to support our local communities.”
Projects to receive funding from The Vodafone UK Foundation include:
• The Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Trust in Warrington, which offers accredited educational programmes on personal and citizenship development for children and young people, will receive a grant of £45,000 over two years. This will go towards the ‘Full On’ programme, which increases young people’s key skills (including technological) to enhance their employability.
• The NSPCC Young People’s Centre in Warrington which aims to meet the social, educational and welfare needs of all young people in the area. Young people visit the centre to seek support and advice on issues such as bullying, teenage pregnancy, problems with relationships, parental separation, drugs and alcohol abuse. The grant of nearly £28,000 will fund the IT suite in the centre giving young people year-round internet access and opportunities to develop skills and do well in school. It will also give the young people access to the NSPCC’s online counselling service there4me.com.
• Turning Point, a charity that provides community rehabilitation programmes and a range of services (including IT training) for people who misuse drugs or alcohol, will receive a grant of £29,700. The Progress2Work scheme in West Berkshire offers employment for disadvantaged groups as part of their rehabilitation.
• The Wiltshire Music Centre in West Wiltshire will receive funding of £13,500 over two years to pilot a music technology project that seeks to engage vulnerable young people through positive activities.
