Feel good about shopping – Give or Take gearing up for big launch

Howard Lake | 24 August 2006 | Newswire

Give or Take, the new retail website that gives its customers cash back on all purchases made through its site and the choice of then keeping their money or donating it to charity, is gearing up towards its official launch date in October. The site went live earlier in the summer and this soft launch has enabled Give or Take to attract even more retailers and charities prior to launching to its prime audience in the autumn. The charities already involved with Give or Take have started benefiting from being part of this unique venture and are receiving money from Give or Take customers.
Cancerbackup and Enham are the latest charities to sign up and join others such as Shelter, Terrence Higgins Trust, Global Angels, Diabetes UK, RNID and Children in Crisis on the Give or Take website. Kathryn Vere has been appointed by Give or Take as charity development manager with responsibility for building and developing charity relationships. She was previously marketing and campaigns manager at Natural Collection, where she worked with a number of well-known charities including Greenpeace, World Society for the Protection of Animals and the National Animal Welfare Trust.
There are over 500 retailers on the Give or Take site covering a wide spectrum from fashion to insurance – with recent additions including Asda, Sheila’s Wheels, Prudential Health and win4now. There are various special deals on Give or Take’s summer offers page and the company is also developing exclusive voucher codes with a number of selected merchants.
Vikki Barr, business development manager at Give or Take says: ‘We have all types of retailers on the site, and depending on what customers are purchasing, it needn’t take them very long to accumulate quite substantial sums. Then all they have to do is decide whether to keep the cash or to which charity they wish to donate their savings. Mintel recently reported that internet shopping in 2005 was up dramatically on 2004 and the charities that have already joined Give or Take can obviously recognise the site’s fundraising potential’.
Give or Take’s registered customers can shop safely and securely and when purchases are made, all the cash back accrued appears in the user’s personal account until it reaches £25 then the customer can Give or Take as they please, or just carry on accumulating the cash, until they decide what to do. Donations to charity are also eligible for the gift aid scheme.
The company behind Give or Take is UK Web Media, founded in 2001, which is one of the largest online marketing specialists in the UK today. Whilst the two companies are separate, the wealth of industry knowledge and expertise gained from UK Web Media’s work with the major brands has helped the company develop the Give or Take idea of helping raise money for charity through shopping online.
