Walk the Walk founder to provide inspiration to fellow fundraisers at National Convention 2006

Howard Lake | 19 June 2006 | Newswire

Nina Barough, founder of Walk the Walk Worldwide – the health charity that organises the famous Playtex MoonWalk – will provide inspiration for delegates at the Institute of Fundraising’s National Convention 2006. Nina Barough will be the keynote speaker at the National Convention’s opening plenary on Tuesday 11th July, and will channel her abundant enthusiasm and passion for fundraising into a motivational talk entitled ‘Making it Happen’.
Nina initiated Walk the Walk Worldwide to raise money for breast cancer research and cancer care, which has succeeded in raising in excess of £25 million to date. After arranging for a group of friends to power walk the New York Marathon in decorated bras, Walk the Walk has gone from strength to strength – with their key event, The Playtex MoonWalk this year involving as many as 15,000 participants. Edinburgh will host the first Scottish MoonWalk on the 24th June this year.
The National Convention 2006 takes place from 10-12 July 2006 at the Hilton London Metropole, and is an annual event targeted at fundraisers, public relations, communications, marketing and policy professionals, alongside top-level management and CEOs working in charities, arts, health and education organisations across the UK. The event promises to be educational, inspiring, motivational and entertaining.
Other highlights of the National Convention 2006 include:
· The core programme of over 150 workshops, tailor made with content designed to suit all levels of experience. Workshops cover everything from legacies and new media fundraising, to major gifts and direct marketing.
· The Focus On sessions. These mini-conferences give delegates an opportunity to explore 4 key issues in depth. Choose from 360 Degree Fundraising, Recruitment and Retention of Fundraising Staff, New Media Fundraising and Donor Recruitment and Retention.
· Chief Executives’ Day (Monday 10th July 2006). Specifically designed to appeal to senior personnel, the sessions on this date address core management issues, exploring how fundraising can be fully integrated across the organisation, from top to bottom.
· The Fundraising Awards 2006 – a dinner and Awards ceremony celebrating excellence in fundraising. The Awards are run in partnership by Professional Fundraising magazine and the Institute of Fundraising.
Now in its seventeenth year, the National Convention is the major date in the fundraising calendar. Over 2,000 people attended in 2005, making it the largest gathering of fundraisers outside of the USA.
Lindsay Boswell, Chief Executive of the Institute of Fundraising, says: “We are delighted to welcome Nina Barough as our keynote speaker at this year’s National Convention. Nina Barough’s wonderful achievement in pioneering the fundraising MoonWalk will be a topic of great interest to many of our delegates – and her forthcoming plenary is not to be missed. The National Convention is a one-stop-shop for fundraisers and an essential diary date for all those looking to learn from others, to debate fundraising trends and broader issues affecting charities.”
