Help the Hospices launch World Cup online sweepstake

Help the Hospices have launched a World Cup sweepstake website to raise funds for hospices throughout the UK. The initiative is being promoted by The Sun Online as the publication’s official sweepstake for the competition.

The sweepstake is backed by England manager Sven-Göran Eriksson who said: “The hospice sweepstake is a fantastic way to get into the spirit of this year’s World Cup and I’d encourage you all to take part.”

The Hospice Sweepstake website features all the materials needed to make holding a sweepstake and encourages players to split their proceeds equally between the lucky winner and their local hospice, or Help the Hospices.

Stephen Ballantyne, corporate fundraiser, at Help the Hospices, said: “We were hoping that the sweepstake initiative would raise around £10,000 in total for hospice care. But with the support of The Sun Online and Sven, it’s possible that we could smash through that target.”

This is the second World Cup related fundraising activity by Help the Hospices. The charity’s “Come on England – Support hospice care” wristbands are on sale in Argos stores throughout England and have generated over £65,000 in their first four weeks of sales.

The Sun Online’s involvement follows on from their long running campaign to increase children’s hospice funding which has resulted in a petition signed by more than 250,000 people being presented to No 10 Downing Street.

Help the Hospices is the national charity for the hospice movement, supporting over 220 local hospices across the UK.
