WCIT Appoints Paula Wallington as Director of Charitable Development

Howard Lake | 26 April 2006 | Newswire

Enabling the organisation to implement a more structured programme of charitable work, the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists (WCIT) has appointed Paula Wallington as director of charitable development.
Wallington will focus on strengthening the ‘culture of giving’ among all 650 WCIT members. She aims to maximise WCIT’s potential in this area by ensuring that individuals’ time and resources are matched with the most appropriate and relevant opportunities available.
Based at the livery company’s London headquarters, Wallington brings with her more than 15 years experience in the charity sector. Before joining WCIT, she was director of communications, fundraising and marketing with the community safety charity, Crime Concern. In this role, she led a team of ten specialists to achieve annual core and national project funding targets of around £1.5 million.
Previously, she was employed as director of communications and fundraising with the rural community development charity and national association, ACRE – a national campaigning organisation, speaking out for the socio-economic needs of rural people.
Achievements in this post included a £10 million matched funding capital bid to the Millennium Commission and helping to establish the national Telecottage Association, providing IT services to those living and ‘teleworking’ in deprived rural communities.
Paula’s in-depth experience and expertise in tackling issues of disadvantage make her ideally suited to this role,” says David Edwards, operations director, WCIT. I am confident that she will be successful in driving the future development of our charitable activities and ensuring that we build on our already excellent track record in this area.”
Wallington’s appointment underlines WCIT’s commitment to working with not-for-profit organisations to help them gain maximum benefit from their IT systems. This is achieved by members contributing their time to provide pro bono strategic IT advice; by the provision of funding where appropriate and by WCIT hosting IT 4 Communities, a national programme, which introduces volunteers to charities needing IT help.
