NCVO membership reaches 4,500

Over 4,500 organisations are now members of the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO), the largest charity umbrella body in the UK.

The 4,500th organisation to join NCVO is the Red Rose Sports Club. Based in Preston, the Red Rose Sports Club aims to increase participation in sport and recreation amongst people from disadvantaged backgrounds.

It joined NCVO as a ‘Community Plus’ member, a package tailored to meet the needs of voluntary and community organisations with annual incomes below £50,000.

Martin Nee, NCVO’s Head of Marketing and Membership, said: “It is important for NCVO’s membership to reflect the broad diversity of our growing sector, from large household name charities to small local groups. Strengthening the reach of our membership will allow NCVO to help yet more voluntary organisations across the length and breadth of England realise their true potential and bring about lasting change.”

Over 50% of NCVO’s members are based outside of London, over 60% are local organisations, and over 70% have incomes of less than £500,000.
