Supermarket Waitrose was the only fruit supplier who agreed to donate apples to Bowel Cancer UK’s campaign for healthy eating.

The apples will be given away to mark Bowel Cancer UK’s Sit Down on It appeal week which starts on 7 April. The apples will feature a sticker with details of how to donate £1.50 by SMS and enter a competition to win one of 35 unusual prizes, all of them related to sitting down.

GNER and Network Rail have both donated free sites to Bowel Cancer UK from which volunteers will distribute the apples.

Stephen Roose-Jones, head of fundraising at the cancer charity, said about the prizes: “the common denominator is that the winners sit down somewhere special – reminding us that we should think about our bottoms as a matter of life or death.”
