No takers from Galway for charity event

No applicants have come forward to date from County Galway to participate in a major fundraiser for the Irish Cancer Society. With Daffodil Day fast approaching on March 24 the Irish Cancer Society is calling on companies across Galway to get ‘Back to the Shop Floor’ for Daffodil Day.
Following a great response from Galway last year with companies like Hewlett Packard partaking in the event, representatives from the Irish Cancer Society say they are most disappointed with the response, but are hopeful Galway will put forward participants to help raise additional funds for Daffodil Day.
We do hope that managers in Galway’s companies will roll up their sleeves and contribute in some way to reaching our target for Daffodil Day this year set at ‚€3 million, said Deirdre Keane of the Irish Cancer Society.

Over 80 companies participated from countrywide last year and the challenge this year is to recruit at least 150 companies, which to date we are nowhere near achieving, she added.
We remain hopeful that by the end of this week we receive some return on the application packs sent out nationwide, as Galway have always held some involvement in Daffodil Day fundraising.
Now in its fourth year, the fundraising event invites senior managers to spend some portion of Daffodil Day performing a task that would not normally be part of their everyday routine.
Over the past four years, Back to the Shop Floor has generated an additional ‚€650,000 for the overall Daffodil Day campaign, and all monies have gone towards the funding of free nursing care services for people with cancer all over Ireland.
