The Council of Ethnic Minority Voluntary Sector Organisations (CEMVO) is to receive a grant of £174,783 from the Big Lottery Fund. This will to enable it to recruit a development officer and support work with 30 small Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) groups across the region, particularly targeting Swindon, Wiltshire, Dorset, Plymouth and Cornwall.

The funding is part of the Big Lottery Fund’s Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS) programme. CEMVO’s grant was part of a package of £3,635,100 benefiting 28 community and voluntary groups across the South West region.

CEMVO’s Muhammad Ali said: “CEMVO South West’s regional Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) Project Development Programme will help, on a one to one basis, small BME community and voluntary sector organisations to start-up, develop and increase their organisational capacity so as widen their funding base and become sustainable.”

Mark Cotton, Big Lottery Fund Head of South West region, said: “”These are the final awards to be made under our Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS) programme but our Reaching Communities programme is now open and ready to receive outline projects proposals and we’d be pleased to hear from you.

“The Reaching Communities programme aims to support projects that improve the quality of life in communities, helping those most in need. The programme will provide funding of £100 million nationally in its first year, with up to £500,000 available for individual projects.”
