Charity rowers rescued
The Irish crew of Atlantic Challenge, Ciaran Lewis and Gearoid Towey, have been rescued safely 1,400 nautical miles south east of Bermuda. Ciaran and Georoid were competing in the Woodvale Atlantic Rowing Race, a 40 day race 2795 mile epic of endurance and determination to raise money for the Irish Cancer Society and Merchants Quay.
The charity rowers had set off from La Gomera in the Canaries on route to Antigua in the Caribbean. The crew encountered difficulties early in the journey and were rescued by the US Coast Guard and the crew of the Spanish tanker, the Hispania Spirit.
