Kage Partnership publishes 2006 Fundraising Salary Survey

Howard Lake | 9 February 2006 | News

The latest annual salary survey from fundraising recruitment specialists, the Kage Partnership, finds no significant changes in average salary levels, but has good news for major gift, trust, events and regional fundraisers.

Kage’s report analysed advertised salaries for fundraising vacancies placed with them from over 150 charities during 2005.

Although there were no significant changes in average salary levels in 2005, some areas such as events, trusts and community/regional fundraising saw increases both in the salary ranges and the average figures.

The report confirmed that there is still a shortage of good major gift and trust fundraisers, with the number of major donor vacancies on the increase for the second successive year. Major donor fundraising managers, for example, now earn the highest average salary at £33,000 of comparable managerial posts e.g. compared to Corporate, Trust, Events, or Direct Marketing Managers.

The average salary for a corporate fundraiser might have remained static during the year at £25,000, but the top level salaries for this area “have crept up markedly” from the previous year, up to £30,500.

Heads of Fundraising at small/medium charities now earn from £30,000 – 60,000 with the average £41,000.

Kage also report on some general trends in fundraising recruitment based on the advertised vacancies. For example, there has been a greater provision of overall benefits packages with pensions and leave entitlement at the top of the tick list. Also, over the last two to three years there has been a steady increase in requests by job seekers for flexible working. Similarly, more fundraisers are asking for and being given sabbaticals.

All jobs analysed in the survey were based in the London area, and the salaries included London weighting.

Copies of the fundraising salary survey are available from the Kage Partnership.
