Charitybooks.co.uk raises funds online from donated second-hand books

Howard Lake | 7 February 2006 | News

CharityBooks was set up in late 2004 to provide a revenue generating service for UK charities by selling second-hand books donated to charity and maximising the prices achieved.

All books are sold with precise information detailing how much money will be donated to which charity.

Charitybooks works directly with charities to source donated books, but it also attracts book donations direct from the general public. Donors are given the opportunity to nominate which charity benefits from the sale of their books.

Up to 80% of a book’s sale price goes direct to the nominated charity. All other income generated goes into the operation of the Charitybooks.co.uk and its services.

Founder Tom Hope said: “we feel strongly that books are an unappreciated and undervalued revenue generating opportunity for charities.”

During 2005 the site generated £1,324.28 split between 14 charities.
