DoH refuses use of "NHS" brand on hospitals loyalty card

Howard Lake | 19 January 2006 | News

A new loyalty card to raise funds for patient care in the National Health Service has changed its name from the ‘NHS Gift Card’ to the ‘Hospital Gift Card’ after the Department of Health refused to allow it to use the letters ‘NHS’ or the NHS logo.

Gifting Solutions Limited, who are about to launch the card, reported “previously positive feedback” on the initiative from the Department of Health.

The renamed card’s launch will go ahead, and Gifting Solutions report a good take-up by NHS hospital trusts and high street brands.

The card will offer individuals a simple method of generating income for their local hospital whenever they buy goods at participating retailers, and without the need for detailed registration that other loyalty cards typically require.

Adam Gregory, Managing Director of Gifting Solutions, told UK Fundraising that ideally it should not be necessary for Hospital Trusts to have to raise additional money. “But we all have to live in the real world and the Hospital Gift Card offers the public a real chance to help their local Hospital Trusts in a truly substantial way.”

The name change has meant a change in the card’s web address. From Friday this will be hospitalgift.co.uk.
